that pesky leaking ghia

it drives me crazy, as it is really had to operate. i got one leak less, but it still leaks somewhere. have to go to fix the second one. than im ready for the next ones. maybe its just like p.laitinen told me, that the hoses might be toasted, of the E85. that would be awful. but as always, Pekka might be right on this. :-(

i would like to get the engine running again. summer is pretty short in here.

turbo-ghia troubleshooting part 4

 Today was a day to take a bath, with a pressurized throttle valve, and it went pretty well, the more you give air/pressure, the better the jacuzzi feels like. :-) BUT have to think what can be done with this. i don't know any machinists... i would like a 65 mm throttle bore , but one that doesn't leak. ok whats next?

if the weather will be decent, i will go to the cottage to freeze my butt, and try to pressurize the rest of the intake. and the best result will come, if i loosen the rocker shafts. i wonder how this will turn out. + it would be wise to check out the hoses too... and the pressure is under 0,3 bar in this clip

turbo-ghia troubleshooting part 2

 Ok, first part of the leak down test partially done. Even the bigger compressor was out of order, the small tyre compressor made some pressure for the system, and there's two spots that needs to be fixed, then i need more/bigger pressure, to see if there's more. but looks like the parts in this green line is ok. well atleast semi ok. the weather went to sunshine to pretty cold, so this test-thing will continue later on, :-)

i´m a bit nervous, what will be found later. but first this tested part has to be leak proof.

turbo-ghia troubleshooting part 1

 Today was a great day, even i didn't get to the great final. i had to test the "Turbo Boost Leak tester" set... to pressurize the compressor side...BUT i couldn't get any pressure to the cold side of the turbo. none. i thought that the new leak tester is broken. but no. so now i have to test the system in smaller parts, like plug the intercooler, and test the tubes before that. or maybe just plug the tube where the BOW is located... 

have to go back tomorrow, if there's no wind and a bit warmer, as it was cold today. and i have to locate different size plugs for this... but maybe there's a reason that this black ghia doesn't have many horses...


the starting point. 1. remove the air cleaner...


2. plug the intake of the turbo...
and put some compressed air...


(there's the kit to test...)


3. dismantle the cold side tubing somewhere, 
and put a plug somewhere... and NOTHING!
there's a massive leak somewhere... DAMN!

small service to the ghia

As the oil in the engine looks like latte coffee, due to the E85, 
i had to change the oil, and the filter too, as i want to run the engine occasionally.
the weather was ok in the beginning, but as we went to buy oil and a filter, we got some snow...
but that didn't bother, at least not much. the next thing to the ghia, is to get it in a warmer place...
then starts the trouble shooting, for the leaks, and have to check if the cam is ok...
i ordered some stuff from amazon...for that leak testing....

Der Violet ground beetle - project - Sinikiitäjäinen (Carabus violaceus) part5

 The bug has been on the highway, and it was great, now with maxxecu mini. dynoed too, 98hp, 178 Nm wow. its pretty nice. more like a daily driver than sportscar. but theres something waiting to hop it up.

Der Violet ground beetle - project - Sinikiitäjäinen (Carabus violaceus)

 There's something special in this bug. the wbx- engine. its the 2.1 liter, with injection.  inspected with that too. BUT, the engine OR the injection is dead. will see... i´ve been tinkering with this for a while, and one repair shop tried it also for 2 years. (don't know how long they actually tried it) but its interesting for sure. I also tried to eliminate the injection parts and get a twin carb setup, normal distributor and fuel pump. but there's something there that is bugging this beetle. ok, i took it to a shop, with my maxxecu parts, and maybe this beetle is getting a second life after all. i would love to drive a bug for a while. and as i do have 3 turbo setups, one might guess what is happening later on. if it will run. stay tuned, this smells interesting.

small improvements....








that baby blue ghia got couple of wires, and now we have those front lights working so well,  (maybe the HID lights will have to wait for a while...) and as you can see the rear lights have some problems. i would guess that the problems are the grounding... the blinkers are not working for the moment. the wiring of the relay is fixed up someway. and at the rear the grounding is making some bugs. but seems like the blue ghia will be drivable in no time...heheheh. The Stroker engine... well I'm tinkering with the chinese tin, and the fitment aint so good at all. + theres no attachment to the coil & no holes to the throttle cable at all... BEWARE! I´ve been scratching my head, Should i mount the 48 IDAS or The Fuel Injection.... The 48 Isdas would cost 0 euros.but the eco and staff would be around 2000 e... and that old geezer with a cigar is my friend Mikko, great guy!

not your basic old school engine bay...

i visited autotune.fi today, and now theres 20 litres of the 
green gas E85 gasoline to be exact, loads of race oil and some other stuff as well, maybe we will hear some sound in a week? you never know. even the engine bay doesn't look so great, it looks purposeful, and i hope it will kick some ass...
i´ll take videos to youtube, when the time is right...

Things happen...

Good and bad, 
The bad first: 
1. been in a hospital due to the heart problems, and have to go back for some surgery, but in before that, i ve got to put the plenums back to the turbo-ghia, and light stuff like that.
2. The rothmans racing panel van, has some rust issues, and needs repairs to the steering area too, but i've been getting help from k.tallgren, and i'm happy with that, will be better after this.
3. Everything comes in the worst situation, BUT im used in that. :-)

The good:
1. got the plenums back for the ghia. Yeeha! Mr. Laitinen from kangasniemi got them fixed, and now i can put them back, and bolt many parts back to the ghia. More of that later...
2. Will be getting fuel rails a bit later, but they will be even better than before.
3. The stroker will be great, when i get the missing parts like ida--superflo manifolds & valve covers.
4. I might get a third heart surgery/operation and maybe be in a better shape pretty soon.

What a ghia-weekend!

2 last days, at kangasniemi makes a big difference with the black ghia.
Now theres many things welded or modified, plenums, header, tubing, wastegate, cooler... Huh, even my pauter motors header got a tube and bracket for the wastegate... Wow... Im pretty happy.
