Winter strikes back....

Its not easy with the mother nature, first you want to change to the the drums to accept porsche wheels with summer tyres, and then the nature jokes with you by dropping snow from the sky...

Ok it also started to be very cold working outside in a great flu... So i only made half of the intended work... But the 7x15 fuchs wheels are in the back of the bug....now i only have to swap the disc brakes in front... And the ghia needs some brake check also... Something is wrong inside of a front drum.,.

Too much sparetime - detailing wheels

Due to the never ending problems with my heart, have to take pretty easy for awhile, so what else would be better than paint some wheels, like the awfull looking chrome brms, for my taste they look better like in the picture, painted a bit between the spokes... The winter tyres might be swapped to the summer tyres, pretty soon. And then some repop fooks wheels, the ready painted ones looks like shit to my eyes, but from the chromed and polished ones you can have a nice set of wheels.

I dont like the masking so much, but its worth the hassle...

...ok where will these end? These will...be in the bug and in the karmann ghia i would guess...

Stroker to the panel? Or 2 the vert ghia?

Its hard to decide, which one would be funnier? The panel van goes like the wind, easily, but its not the one that you would like to drive 150 km/h for long...

It would need a red9 fronaxle or something similar... But in the twisty roads its fun, maybe 2 much fun...the fun part would be stopped pretty fast with a 160 hp or so... So what about a 84x94 stroker in a patina ghia vert? That would be fun? ... But the ghias tend to go pretty well even with a 1300 cc... And are fun to drive... Ok, i could try it in that ghia... First. With stock brakes, stock box etc...

But it would be pretty light... So it should be fast aswell! And if these will suck... Then the engine could go to the porsche 912. That would not suck at all...

Stuck on snow

I visited my garage today with good intentions like; change the whole front brake assemblys, with new parts, and some joints of the front suspension, but it ended to be a fight against the nature, as there was a lot more snow than before....it was really hard to get the bug in front of the garage. after that i didnt remember that theres also the bearing parts to change and like many times things wont happen so fast... i managed to change one front drum and also the other inner parts, but after that i decided to raise the front as high as i can to have more ground clearance...ok thats done also, but this time it started to come a bit darker, 

I packed my stuff in the v-dub and started to try to go home, but the weather was something like +1 or zero, so the snow was pretty slippery, and heavy....and the bug got stuck many times and ways...

I managed to drive in 30 cm of snow something like 100 meters to another route to the main roads, but without any trails or whasoever in a deep snow this was ment to be unsuccesfull... I was stuck bigtime! And no one near... But i called several neighbours, and one great lady promised to pick us up with the audi quattro... And after 5 minutes there was a car coming to pick up the stuck beetle. It wasnt an easy task for the audi too, we managed to get forward and in some parts the audi driver was going like a maniac... But the reason was that there was so much snow partially that the audi was also making its best to not get stuck...i really felt great after this episode, but my idiotic trust for a "bug with wintertyres-goes everywhere" is gone.

Theres ex-mas after the christmas, my black ghia will be so happy!

I got a package from autotune.fi today, and it contains a new wastegate ...that fits the turbo exhaust, which means a bit less welding .... Thats great, ok the exhaust needs to be a bit of modified to suit the lenght of the motor...and the garrett t04 60-1 also. But the biggest wow thing in the package was the 

Black box plus the wiring kit, its a MS ecu... Now i will need also the intercooler piping kit...but then its pretty much ok from the parts side...

The Cranky side of the stroker

I got a call from the machine shop, and the crank was ready, a balanced 84mm old scat crankshaft... Who knows how many turns it has... But its grinded for the porsche bearings 0.75 size :-/

The job was to balance the flywheel and the crank...+ and to get the rotational masses lower... Maybe 2 kilos? Dont know... But hey... It will be a "bussimoottori" which is a lame bus engine... Well a fk8 cam and a low compression ratio... :-) funny thing with the flywheel is that it was taken off... Of my 1960 panel vans original engine, so it is a 6v flywheel with 200mm clutch... So the engine will be easy to put for example in my 6volt 1965 ghia vert... But when the engine is ready to rumble, i might be putting it first to the panel van...

Devil is in the details

Chromed brm's looks much better, partially painted. But finding correct bolts is hard, bolt-holes are so small ... Gotta get the right ones, then ill be changing the brakeparts, plus update on disc brakes to the front?!

My daily driver BUG...

This red rooster is fun to drive, the kids like it, girls also, and its cheap fun.

Before the snow there is still something to do, like ...to change this gt muffler to a original one, mainly to get more heat for the cabin, and to change the right side heater "duck"  to a correctly repaired one, the excisting one is repaired poorly, with a undersize tube, so you will have a smell of gases inside... Not good. Especially when you want to use the heater... I got the spare part from musse habbaba (thanks!) and i got it repaired in kannelmäki's gift to the exhaust-Pipe-people - TIITTANEN... ;-)

Have to admit that the yet unsold kawell turbo kit would suit this 1600 cc engine pretty well, but i like the easy starting etc... The easyness in this bug is simply awesome... I also got an idea that this would be the ultimate donor car to the steyr 55, but to ruin a good working bug... Maybe not.

Some brake update is coming, swapping to 5-130 boltpattern... More picks later...

Size does matter - bigger parts for bigger thirst...

Kkd-motorsport just sended me the new flanges to the big wastegate...so things are getting forward...

...but what i need the most is money!

Had to take the panel to the cottage, for some minor tweaking...so i picked up the kids from school and daycare, and headed to lohja region...on the way i had to stop to take a pic ... Im not sure of the story of this place, but its really cool. A Blast from the past... ;-)
